The Opel Astra is a compact car introduced in the early 1990s as the successor to the Opel Kadett. Designed mainly for the European market, it offers a balance of practicality, efficiency, and modern technology in the competitive compact segment. Depending on the generation, the Astra has been available in several body styles, including hatchback, sedan, and wagon. Built on a front-wheel-drive platform with a transverse engine layout, it is offered with a wide range of petrol and diesel engines. Known for its comfortable ride, everyday usability, and broad equipment levels, the Astra has become one of Opel’s most important and widely sold models.

Built on the same Opel-designed platform, the Astra was rebadged across GM’s global brands. In Europe it was sold as Vauxhall Astra, in Australia/New Zealand as Holden Astra, in North America (briefly) as Saturn Astra, and in Latin America as Chevrolet Astra - identical engineering, with region-tailored equipment and trim.
