Mazda Cronos / Also known as :
This group gathers midsize models derived from the Mazda Capella/626 platform. Known under various names depending on markets and generations (including Mazda 616, 626, Capella, Cronos, and the sportier MX-6), they offered a wide range of body styles from sedans and wagons to coupes. The Ford Telstar, sold mainly in Asia-Pacific, was a rebadged version built under the Mazda/Ford partnership. Together, these models represented Mazda’s global midsize car lineup, combining reliability, comfort, and in some cases sporty driving dynamics.
The Mazda Cronos, produced in the early 1990s, was a mid-size sedan developed as part of Mazda’s expansion strategy during that era. Closely related to the Mazda 626/Capella, it featured a sleek, modern design for its time and was aimed at offering a more upscale alternative within Mazda’s lineup. Built on the GE platform, it came with a range of four-cylinder and V6 engines, providing a balance between efficiency and performance. Despite being intended as a global car, the Cronos was mainly sold in Japan and some Asian markets, where it stood out for its comfort, technology, and refinement.
