The Mitsubishi Pajero iO and Mitsubishi Pajero Pinin are regional names for the same compact SUV developed by Mitsubishi in the late 1990s. Positioned below the full-size Pajero, this model combined a more urban-friendly size with genuine off-road capabilities, including available four-wheel drive. The name Pajero Pinin, used mainly in Europe, highlights the vehicle’s styling collaboration with Italian design house Pininfarina, while Pajero iO was primarily used in Japan and other Asian markets. Despite the different names, both versions share the same platform, engines, and overall character.
The Mitsubishi Pajero iO (also called Pajero Pinin in some markets), produced 1998-2007, is a compact SUV with full-time four-wheel drive and a lightweight ladder frame. Featuring a 1.8 L petrol engine and selectable low-range transfer case, it offers off-road capability in a small footprint.
