The Toyota bB platform was shared across several compact box-shaped models. Toyota sold it as the bB in Japan, Scion marketed the first-generation (2003-2006) version in North America as the xB, while Daihatsu rebadged it as the Coo (2006-2012) and later as the Materia (2006-2012). Subaru also offered a twin under the name Dex (2006-2012). All share identical underpinnings and mechanicals, differing only in brand-specific trim, badging, and minor styling details.
The Scion xB (2003-2006) is the North American version of the first-generation Toyota bB. It retains the same boxy profile and flexible interior but adds Scion’s youth-focused styling elements, unique trim options, and a sport-tuned suspension. The xB became popular for its customization potential and distinctive square-wagon look.
