The Subaru Legacy is a mid-size sedan and wagon (Legacy Touring Wagon) introduced in the late 1980s, designed as Subaru’s flagship road car. It is best known for combining horizontally opposed boxer engines with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, delivering excellent balance, strong traction, and confident handling in all weather conditions.
Across its generations, the Legacy has evolved from a simple and durable family car into a more refined and technologically advanced model, while maintaining its strong reputation for reliability and safety. The engine lineup includes naturally aspirated and turbocharged gasoline engines, and in some markets a boxer diesel. Sport-oriented versions such as the Legacy GT helped establish Subaru’s performance image and shared engineering roots with the Impreza WRX and STI. Comfortable, versatile, and capable on long journeys, the Legacy remains a solid choice in the AWD family car segment.
