The Volkswagen Rabbit is a compact car name used primarily in North America for versions of the Volkswagen Golf. Originally introduced as the regional name for the first-generation Golf, the Rabbit name was later revived for the fifth-generation model before Volkswagen returned to the Golf designation. Offered mainly as a three- or five-door hatchback with front-wheel drive and a range of petrol and diesel engines depending on the period, the Rabbit combines compact dimensions, practical passenger space, and the versatile everyday character of the Golf model line.

The Volkswagen Golf and Volkswagen Rabbit are different market names used for the same compact car during specific generations. The Rabbit name was primarily used in North America for the first-generation Golf and was later revived for the fifth-generation model before Volkswagen returned to the Golf name. Although specifications, engines, equipment, and trim levels varied by market, the Rabbit represents regional versions of the Volkswagen Golf rather than a separate model line.
