Jiangnan Alto - Versions & models

The Suzuki Alto was introduced in Japan in the late 1970s, initially marketed under the Suzuki Fronte name as a kei car compliant with domestic size and engine regulations. It later evolved into a global subcompact city car (A-segment equivalent) for export markets.

In India, the Maruti 800 was a locally produced adaptation by Maruti Suzuki that became a key entry-level vehicle for first-time car buyers. In China, the Jiangnan Alto was built under license as a low-cost urban model for the domestic market.

All versions are based on a transverse-engine unibody layout with small-displacement gasoline engines, positioned as affordable and practical transportation for urban and emerging markets.
