The Mazda 323 is a compact family car produced by Japanese manufacturer Mazda across several generations from 1977 to 2003. Closely related to the Mazda Familia, it was marketed under different names depending on the region, including Mazda Protegé in North America. Offered in a wide variety of body styles, including hatchback, sedan, station wagon, and coupe, the 323 evolved from an early rear-wheel-drive layout to predominantly front-wheel-drive platforms, with all-wheel-drive versions also available. Featuring a range of petrol and diesel engines, including turbocharged performance variants, it combined practical dimensions, reliable engineering, and economical operation. The Mazda 323 was eventually succeeded by the Mazda 3 in most international markets.
